Supplier Declarations
Supplier Declarations are formal statements provided by component manufacturers confirming that their parts meet specific EU regulatory requirements. For North American machinery builders, these documents are the foundation of Component Compliance. You cannot certify a complex machine unless you can prove that critical sub-assemblies—like motors, safety relays, or touchscreens—are compliant.
These declarations are most commonly required for substance restrictions like RoHS and the REACH Regulation, as well as electrical safety under the Low Voltage Directive (LVD). Unlike a full CE Declaration of Conformity, a supplier declaration might not imply the component is a finished product, but it validates that the materials or performance characteristics fit the legal limits.
Collecting these documents is a critical step in compiling your Technical File. If an auditor or Trading Standards official questions the safety or chemical composition of your machine, relying on a vendor's catalog claim is insufficient. You need signed declarations to maintain a valid audit trail and ensure your final Declaration of Conformity (DoC) is accurate.
